Health Care
Senator Brown is opposed to the health care legislation that is under consideration in Congress and will vote against it.
Economy
Senator Brown is a free enterprise advocate who believes that lower taxes can encourage economic growth,and that raising taxes stifles growth, weakens the economy and puts more people out of work.
Energy and Environment
Senator Brown advocates common-sense environmental policies, including reasonable and appropriate development of alternative energy sources. He opposes a national cap and trade program.
Education
Senator Brown believes in accountability and high standards in our public schools. He supports choice through charter schools, as well as the MCAS exam as a graduation requirement.
Immigration
Senator Brown welcomes legal immigration to this country, but opposes policies that encourage illegal immigration, such as providing driver’s licenses and in-state tuition to illegal immigrant families. He opposes amnesty, and believes in strong border enforcement and employment verification policies.
Gun issues
Senator Brown believes that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms as a basic constitutional liberty.
Death penalty
Senator Brown supports the death penalty in cases where it is justified.
Abortion
Senator Brown believes that an abortion decision should ultimately be made by the woman in consultation with her doctor, but that we need to reduce the number of abortions in America. He supports parental consent and notification requirements and opposes partial birth abortion.
Marriage
Senator Brown believes that states should be free to make their own laws in this area, so long as they reflect the people's will as expressed through them directly, or as expressed through their elected representatives.
Israel
Senator Brown recognizes that Israel has made enormous sacrifices in an attempt to secure peace – including unilateral withdrawal from Gaza. He supports a two-state solution and, until a lasting peace is achieved, the security barrier erected by Israel.
Iran
Senator Brown supports the bi-partisan Iran sanctions bill and believes that until Ahmadinejad gives up his nuclear ambitions he should be isolated from the rest of the world.
Senator Brown is also Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard.
